I think it's time for me to get a GPS!!! *wink* Recently I drove to Dallas to the airport to pick up my mom who had flown in for a visit. The day started early when she called to say her flight out had been delayed but 2 hours so I waited awhile to leave. On my way she calls and says her plane is grounded and they are waiting an hour on the tarmack... but I'm already on my way so I figure I'll visit with friends or do some shopping at a great resale shop I've heard about.
As most of you know Texas has been hit hard by bad weather lately so as I'm driving toward the DFW area the sky is blue and it's SUNNY - but I get a text from a friend who says I'm going to run into bad weather. I make some phone calls and sure enough find out they are having 50 mph winds and possible LARGE hail and all the shit that goes along with bad weather. As I get closer it become as dark as night in the afternoon and the wind is blowing so hard it's difficult to drive. The skies are looking very dangerous! It begins to rain and it continued off and on the rest of the night. It doesn't rain as hard as I had worried about so there was no problem driving in it other than it's just more stressful and all. My daughter is with me and with an extra 3-4 hours to wait we decide to pick up a friend of hers and go to the movies or dinner. She learned a valuable lesson on direction that day. She wrote down the directions (sort of) and we got lost... very lost. I finally made a phone call and had someone mapquest it so after an extra one hour of driving we arrive there and spend some FUN time at dinner and at a mall in town.
The REAL fun began when we were inside the airport heading towards the terminals. I usually enter through the north entrance and have never had trouble getting anywhere - but this time I arrived from the south. We were on the service road and saw a sign which said "Tolltag" at an entrance to an on ramp. NOW - what would YOU think if you saw that sign? We both thought it was only for tolltag vehicles so we kept on going.. WRONG!!! It actuall means you can have a tolltag or pick up a parking ticket at eh booth!!! So, we turn around and are now heading in the opposite direction on the other side of the service road... THEN the on ramp to turn around AGAIN so we can go the right direction has a sign just before the entrance to the on ramp and it says...DO NOT ENTER!!! Well we figured it was NOT for the on ramp and must be for the cars on the terminal road but still very confusing - are we going to get on this ramp and a car will come driving towards us??? I'm a good driver but this was CRAZY! And once we're on the terminal road finally we see a sign that says terminal E parking - and ONLY becasue I've been here enough do I know to turn there... but to me it sounds like it'a ONLY to park - not to actually go to ther terminal. ALl of this is the pouring rain...
We finally are able to pick "mom" up and then at mid night get to drive the 2 hours home...
A very long day but she's here and safe!!!
Now... time to save for a navigation system!
